RIVER’S EDGE ON THE POTOMAC CAMPGROUND FAQ’s

We are excited about your interest in River’s Edge on the Potomac Campground! This is our second season, and we continue to add new amenities each year. River’s Edge is a laid-back, quiet, and peaceful retreat, perfect for relaxing and reconnecting with nature.

Our most popular features include:

• Extra-large campsites measuring approximately 40 × 80 feet (3,200 sq. ft.)

• Plenty of shade trees

• One of the most scenic stretches of the North Branch of the Potomac River

This section of the river is ideal for fishing, kayaking, and floating. Guests can launch directly from the campground and enjoy a 2.5–3 hour float to the public take-out, followed by a five-minute drive back to camp via Maple Drive.

2. Do you have electricity?

Yes. Every site has 30/50 amp electric service, a GFCI 120-volt outlet, and an individual electric meter. Campers are responsible for contacting FirstEnergy to activate electric service.

​

Average monthly electric cost (based on last season): approximately $20 per month.

 

3. Do you have water?

Yes. The campground has a well with a centralized water hydrant, located near Lot 97.

 

4. Do you have septic service?

Septic pumping and portable toilet rentals are available through:

Service is provided every Monday, and campers do not need to be present for black tank service.

 

Recreation & Amenities

 

5. Is there fishing?

Yes. The North Branch of the Potomac River is known for excellent fishing. Species include:

• Smallmouth Bass

• Rainbow, Brown, Brook, and Westslope Cutthroat Trout

• Rock Bass, Channel Catfish, Walleye, and native Shad

Cold water releases from Jennings Randolph Lake create ideal fishing conditions. Maryland and West Virginia share fishing licenses on this section of the river.

 

6. Can you kayak or float on this section?

Yes. You can float, kayak, tube, canoe, ect and the river has water to float all summer long on this section.  The river forms a scenic horseshoe bend around the campground. Guests may launch directly from their site and enjoy a 2.5–3 hour float to the public take-out. The return drive to camp is approximately five minutes via Maple Road and Kline Lane.

 

Camping Policies

 

7. Do you offer daily or weekly rentals?

We primarily offer seasonal and monthly sites. Daily and weekly rentals may be available depending on site availability.

 

8. Are golf carts or side-by-sides allowed?

Yes. Golf carts and licensed side-by-sides are permitted on campground roads only. No four wheelers or three wheelers permitted. Please follow posted speed limits and operate safely.

 

9. Do you have Wi-Fi?

No. We do not currently offer Wi-Fi. However, cellular service is excellent, and most guests can stream using mobile data.

 

10. Are dogs allowed?

Yes. Dogs are welcome. The following breeds and mix breeds are restricted by our insurance provider:

German Shepherds, Chow Chows, Rottweilers, Dobermans, Akitas, and Pit Bulls (this includes full bred and mix breeds).

11. How many campers or tents are allowed per site?

• One RV and one tent, or two tents per site

Tent camping is only permitted during the summer season.

 

12. Am I responsible for maintaining my site?

Yes. Campers are responsible for maintaining their 40 × 80 site, including:

Trimming/mowing grass

• Picking up trash

• Keeping the site clean and presentable

 

13. Are firearms permitted?

No. Firearms are not permitted on campground property.

 

14. Are fireworks permitted?

No. Fireworks are not permitted.

Safety & Communication

 

15. Is the campground prone to flooding?

The campground is located in a flood zone. Flooding occurred in May of last year, requiring campers to move equipment. According to local history, this was the first flood since the 1990s.

For safety, we strongly recommend:

• Joining our private Facebook Messenger group​

• Downloading the NOAA Weather App

• Monitoring the gauge “North Branch Potomac River at Cumberland”

If predicted river levels exceed 17 feet, campers should be prepared to move to higher ground.

 

16. How will I receive campground communications?

After signing your lease, you will receive the direct phone numbers for Harvey and/or Sheila (owners) for emergencies.
